Raising the veil on food....

Well last night the veil was raised for Pentti and I ...between us and our food supply!

This is a must see film if you have any interest in where your food comes from and how it's processed.

The most enlightening fact for me: E-coli in beef is a problem because cows are fed corn rather than grass....their natural food.
So this morning I'm on the website of my CSA ordering pastured beef and chicken. The official trailer won't embed.....but you can see it HERE.

heads up Sarah

This is what we have to work with if you come up for dinner tonight.

Rainbow lights swiss chard, escarole, red leaf lettuce, spinach, savoy cabbage, fresh oregano, garlic scapes, and summer squash.

I'm thinking: a white bean/garlic scape pesto with baguette slices to start....

I'm up to my elbows

in saltwater soap.... Lucky Mag featured it this month on the Lucky Breaks page...and we've been a bit overwhelmed.

So.. not much time for blogging or cooking. But I'm so enamored with all these greens I'm getting from the CSA that I decided I needed to branch out.

Hence for Pentti on Father's Day:
Wild Salmon, Mustard Greens and Potatoes with Mustard-Dill Glaze.

He's leaving for Canada tomorrow morning to see his Mom. What will I do with the house all to myself?? (besides make soap, of course.) I've got 240 pounds of Mango butter soap to make this week....and more saltwater soap, too.

fresh veggies are here

Here's the loot. My first pick up from the CSA I joined last fall. We are going to be so healthy with all of these organic veggies on our plate each week.
We have here bok choy, chinese cabbage, rhubarb, garlic chives, arugula, mizuma, sage (flowering) red leaf lettuce.

First night: I sauteed the bok choy with garlic chives and white beans....yum!

Hidden picture game

here's the game. can you find what's hidden in the photo below?

Something I lost 9 days ago, looked for for 2 days, then gave up to wait until they showed up on their own. Tonight...they did! That's the drawer under my stove...where the potholders and pot lids live.

Those of you who know me, know these are my favorite reading glasses....I'm on cloud nine tonight!

Summer fruits

I finally found a use for the raspberries I picked and froze last summer:

Raspberry Cream Scones!

Yummmmm. Especially with the clotted cream I brought home from Harney's last week. We were in Millerton, NY and had lunch in their tea room. If you get by that way don't miss it. Not just great tea...but great lunches, too!

These are for you Sarah.
